This bowl is about 6 inches in diameter and about 4 high.  It is made from Ash its botanical name is "Fraxinus excelsior".The tree can grow to be quite large in size, some 100ft or more in height, producing a trunk from 1ft 8in to 5ft in diameter. The finish is achieved by sanding while spinning on the lathe with every grade of sandpaper from 80grit (course) right up to 1200grit (ultra fine) and then 0000grade wire wool (this grade is a lot finer than what you'd use to clean your pans).   Then applying 2 coats of sanding sealer wire wooled between each coat and lastly, a coat of friction polish.
